Bring your Goodreads library

Years of reading, sitting in a spreadsheet. Turn the export into a shelf of covers you can wander.

How it works

  1. On Goodreads, open My Books, then Import and export in the left sidebar, and press Export Library.
  2. Wait a moment for the file to generate, then download the CSV.
  3. In Moodshelf, open Add, then Import, then Goodreads, and drop the file in.
  4. Each book comes in with its cover and details, ready for moods and search.

How to export your Goodreads library

Exporting works on the Goodreads website, not the mobile app. Go to goodreads.com, open My Books, and look for Import and Export under Tools in the left sidebar. Press the Export Library button at the top of that page.

Goodreads generates the file in the background, which can take a little while for large libraries. When it is ready, a download link appears just below the button, named with the date of the export.

The file is a CSV that holds your whole library: titles, authors, ISBNs, your ratings, your shelves, and the dates you added and read each book.

Questions

Do covers come over?

Yes. Each book is matched back to its edition and arrives with its cover.

Which shelves are included?

Everything in your export comes over: read, currently reading, and to read.

What about my ratings and reviews?

They travel inside the file, and what lands on your shelf for now is the book itself: cover, title, and author.

How many books can I bring on the free plan?

The free shelf holds 500 items, and each book counts as one. If an import would go past that, Moodshelf asks you first.

Do I need the browser extension?

Not for Goodreads. The CSV import works right in the app.
